So I get a call today. The guy from the wheel company says they can’t confidently start me Monday without an additional 2-3 accounts. And because I’m the one in the car business currently and historically, it somehow has become my responsibility. I’m not even hired yet, but I’m supposed to build their clientele. That doesn’t sound right...

I would call this car a “rice.’ They made it like a japaneze car

Wat. That's a Grand Sport. You take that back you commie

Damn dude. Your situation has sounded a little messy from the get-go. I offer this polite advice: start arranging for a plan B. Things may turn out just fine! But it would be dangerous to bank on this.

Basically how I feel. My concern is that if the work isn’t there, then how will I get paid once I’m onboard?

THIS IS HER. THIS IS THE WOMAN I DROVE BY AND WAVED AT THE OTHER DAY.
Sorry, got excited. It’s a nice Grand Sport. Where was that picture taken?
I’d say that expectation for you is rather bollocks. Which really sucks, because didn’t you already give up your sales position at Moore?

Right?!

If* you’re on board. World’s greatest threat to the working man: “I got a job lined up.” (Paraphrasing)
Best of luck

I think so, I would hunt something else down but that is bad form to tell you a week ahead of your start date they need you to build business. Just stick with it like you are all in, but shop around

The car was beautiful. It’s from Kohls C&C in Fair Lakes.
And no, I haven’t given any notice because I don’t have any commitment from the wheel shop. I never jump off the boat before I find land.

Yes exactly. Remain professional but prepare yourself.

How much hp does your Olds have?

Argh, was that from two Sundays ago? I haven’t been to Kohl’s C&C before, only Katie’s, that weekly BK cruise-in near my house, and the annual Calvary Temple things (which I will no longer be attending).
That wheel shop sounds sketchy as hell. If my brother’s experience is any indicator, that kind of shenanigans is actually rampant in the manual labor sectors. Owners trying to skimp on insurance, screwing employees, etc. Watch out, man.

I’ve worked places where getting hired was contingent on bringing new accounts, but it was always made clear either on the job posting or during the first interview. I’d definitely keep options open if this was sprung on you after an offer was made. It’s a shifty old tactic to imply you’re ‘in’ then when you’re about to start change the conditions to force your hand since you’ll have likely have withdrawn from your other opportunities.

The grand sport had at least 350hp. It also more than likely outhandles your olds

i was just kidding. Corvettes are very nicely done

less then any corvette i think but it has 24 valve!!!

Sketch! If they’re doing that kind of thing already you can only imagine how they will be once you’re locked in.

That was from yesterday actually. Kohls is on Sunday.
And yeah, I pretty much immediately went back to applying for normal jobs...

Luckily I haven’t quit or even given notice at the dealership. Otherwise I’d be a while mother level of pissed.

Well they’re a small company that is working hard to keep things going. It just bothers me that part of that philosophy is to have the new guy call everyone he knows to get more business.

Yeah, I know Kohl’s is on Sunday. I just don’t remember yesterday being so nice out. I guess that’s what happens when you’re stuck inside all day with school stuff.

Sounds like a philosophy of desperation.

such a chick car. actually not at all, but there is a woman in my town that drives one as well

I agree with dunnik. It’s a surprisingly saturated market and most of your potential clients will have no interest in changing vendors.

Here is my advice: pick any picture you’d like.
